Quarter Acre Hotel, first opened in 2019, is a warm, local pub in Applecross that’s inspired by the past but designed for the now.
On the site of the former Terrazza Italian restaurant, Quarter Acre Hotel, Applecross, as its name suggests, is inspired by and takes plenty of cues from golden-age suburbia.
The “quarter-acre block” was for years a phrase that embodied the Australian dream of post-war home ownership, referencing a block of land of that proportion to build a home and a dream.
Acknowledging this aspiration, the hotel’s layout mimics a typical suburban block (the alfresco seating is located to the rear like a backyard) and retro design features abound, but we’ve stopped short of erecting a Hills Hoist in the outdoor area.
When you visit we hope you feel as comfortable as though you were in your own or a friend’s back yard. To help achieve this our layout reminiscent of a typical suburban block including alfresco seating that mirrors the comforts of a backyard.

When hospitality heavyweights Miles Hull and Clint Nolan opened Quarter Acre in 2019 they were keen to celebrate the great suburban pub.
Hull told The West Australian: “All around metro Perth there is a lack of great suburban pubs, Melbourne has held onto theirs, Sydney as well, unfortunately in Perth we have said goodbye to a lot.
“Particularly between Fremantle and Canning River there really is nothing. We saw the opportunity within the site and the size of it to bring it to life as a suburban pup: contemporary, a nice place to eat, a great place to bring family, friends, catch up over a beer … that whole idea of a corner pub.”
They wanted an “outdoor, backyard sort of feel”, the report noted, “complete with plenty of greenery, a space for kids to run around and a mural by Kyle Hughes- Odgers.”
It’s been a popular mix. Quarter Acre has developed a loyal customer base who enjoy the venue for relaxed social gatherings and a family-friendly environment with a kid’s playground.
